Gordon
Long (left) has been at Eggleston almost a quarter of a century
(yes, he's that old!). Born in Whorlton and educated here in Teesdale,
Gordon comes from a long line of gardeners. Much of his interest in
horticulture was cultivated by his father whose certificates and awards
in the 'Dig for Victory' era now hang proudly in the shop. Much respected
in the nursery trade and on the plant fair circuit, for both his professionalism
and his personal qualities of integrity, honesty and great charm,
Much of Gordon's time is spent visiting and planning customers' gardens.
Malcolm Hockham (right) came to Eggleston in 1998 after eight
years in horticultural research and much disillusionment in the ever-growing
trend toward genetic modification. Formally trained to HND and RHS
standard, Malcolm was educated at Midhurst, West Sussex and worked
through the old 'country house' system before taking a Head gardenership
in Hertfordshire during 1980, there he remained for 10 years until
moving into horticultural and agricultural science field. Malcolm
also designs wildlife friendly cottage gardens and along with Gordon
presents a very humorous though slightly adult slide show and talk
about life and Eggleston. |
